Plants vs. Zombies HD iPad Game App Review

Price – $9.99/£5.99

Rating – 4/5

The large screen of the iPad will appeal to most gamers especially for fans of tower defense games such as Plants vs. Zombies. This addictive game developed by PopCap Games was originally developed for the iPhone and the iPod Touch but is now available for the iPad.

For the iPad, PopCap Games renamed the title as Plants vs. Zombies HD. Since it was a bestselling game for iPhone and the iPod Touch chances are that gamers will be addicted to the iPad version as well. On the other hand, Plants vs. Zombies HD costs $9.99 which is three times more expensive than the previous versions. This game can be purchased through iTunes.

To be fair, Plants vs. Zombies HD for the iPad is quite similar in features as the Mac and PC versions of this game but comes with a cheaper price tag. These features include the survival mode where players attempt to stay alive as long as they can which is not available for the iPhone/iPod Touch version. Players that have finished the campaign mode of the game will difinelty enjoy the survival mode. Also, Plants vs. Zombies HD has the correct top placement of the resources and weapons you will utilize to defeat the onslaught of zombies.

Exclusively for the iPad, this game offers a new exciting mini-game mode named “buttered popcorn” that utilizes the iPad’s multi-touch display screen. PopCap explains this mini-game with players attacking zombies by initially “buttering” them up before shooting them with corn-cob cannons. Players place butter on the heads of zombies to defeat their onslaught. Uniquely, players utilize the iPad’s multitouch screen interface and are only allowed to choose a maximum of eleven zombies to “butter” up at a single time. These buttered zombies are now direct targets for the amazing corn cob cannons. Most likely, by allowing players to choose up to eleven zombies at a time, means players must be creative at the task since selecting the eleventh zombie is beyond their ten fingers. Some players may use their nose while other asks for friends to help out.

PopCap games have quoted to selling over 650,000 Plants vs. Zombies for the iPhone and iPod touch alone. Players who have purchased the iPhone and iPod version of the game are still capable of playing it on the iPad. But if they wish to play the game with its new features and a larger screen size they will have to purchase the HD version.
