Use your IPhone to take care of your household finances

June 14th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in Uncategorized

The IPhone has many uses. It is similar to a mini computer and you can use it as such. One of the ways that people like to use the IPhone is to take care of their household finances. Usually this is a job for the home computer and not the cell phone but if you are an IPhone user, then you already know that the phone can handle a job like this with no problem at all. There are several applications that will help you out with this process. In this article we will discuss these applications and help you decide which one is the best for you to use to keep track of your household budget.

The first app that we will discuss is brought to you by Intuit. It is the Quicken IPhone app. For years, Quicken has been the number one software for people looking to keep their household finances in order. Now the same convenience that was brought to you on the computer is now on the IPhone. You can keep track of everything cleanly while using this application. This means that you will be able to see the status of your bank account, the amount owed on the mortgage, and other household needs all at the same time. If you are looking to find the ultimate solution when you are trying to keep track of your finances, then this application should be number one on your list.

The second app that we will discuss is the application from Mint.com. The same people that own Quicken, own this company as well, but if you use the two of them, you will see quite a difference. The Mint IPhone app will allow you to see your budgetary needs on a pretty graph. Also, it will give you tips on what you need to do to stay on the budget that you set for yourself. While the Quicken software has people that know what they are doing in mind, the Mint app is made for people who are new to keeping a budget. It holds your hand while you are getting used to the world of household finance. The best thing about this application is that all of the information stays up to date automatically. This means that if you do not have the time to keep your budget, then it will keep it for you.

There are several other applications that are out there that will allow you to keep your household finances up to date. Some of the apps will be sponsored by the bank that you belong to; others will be third party apps that may focus on one part of your budget. The two listed here are two of the best but they might be a little bit much for what you need. Use the IPhone app store and try to find the app that will best fit your purposes. This is why the Apple app store is so great.

Create a better listening experience on your IPod touch with just a few apps

June 14th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in Uncategorized

When you hear all of the talk about Apple these days, you mostly hear about the IPhone or the IPad. But the start of this Apple revolution began with the IPod. With the other two in the news all of the time, you do not hear about the IPod nearly as much. But Apple has not given up on it. In fact, with the IPod touch you are able to make one of the top listening devices in the world even better. We have a few applications that you can get from the app store that will allow you to make the IPod touch the music player that you always dreamed that it could be.

The first app that we will discuss is one that is created by Pandora. Pandora is an online music service that serves a similar function as a radio station. But instead of the DJ picking what kind of music that you are going to listen to, the service ask you what you would like and caters it list to your desires. If you are a person that likes a certain style of hip hop, then the list will cater to that style for you. If you like to listen to a mix of genres, then the service will cater to that as well. Having this service along side your normal IPod library will be a great thing for anyone looking to have the ultimate music service.

ClickOnRadio is another app that you can use to make the IPod touch even better than it already is. Sometimes, you want to be surprised by the music and not just pick the music that you want to hear. So for this effect you will go back to listening to normal radio stations either online or off. This app will allow you to find out what your favorite local radio station is playing at any time. This is great for when you are in the car and you are having trouble deciding which radio station that you want to listen to. You can use this app and see what the other stations are playing without having to surf around the dial looking for something good.

Since we are talking about radio stations, you are also able to use the IPod touch to listen to your favorite local radio station on the device itself. There are a whole host of apps that will allow you to do this but even easier than that is to use the Safari browser that is available on the phone. Just go and visit the web site of the radio station that you want to listen to and jam away using the ear buds in the IPod. Some people forget about the simple solutions such as this and instead head for to the app store as their first resort.

As you can see, there are many ways that you can make your listening experience on the iPod Touch very memorable. If you are a person that really enjoys their music, then take advantage of both the app store and the browser on the IPod Touch.

Doodle Jump – App Review

Doodle Jump App Review

Price$0.99/£0.59

Rating4.5/5

Doodle Jump has scarcley left the top 10 of the iTunes charts since it was created in April of 2009. The game consists of a small, unknown creature, which has been doodled onto a piece of squared paper. The aim is to get the creature as high up the page as possible, by jumping upon platforms without falling. You control the “Doodler” by tilting the iPhone or iPod, which is one of the few apps which uses the motion sensor to it’s full capabilities.

However, the game is not as simple as it may seem. As you climb further up the page, you will find many obstacles stand in your way. You may face the broken platforms, the disappearing platforms or a host of alien creatures ready to abduct your Doodler. You can defend yourself against these aliens by shooting, which can be done by simply tapping the screen in the direction you wish to shoot in. There is also a host of different upgrades to collect on your way up, such as a Jetpack, Propeller Hat and Trampolines. Here is a full table of platforms and upgrades.

Colour Action
Green Most common platform. Remains unchanged once jumped upon
Gray Platform constantly moves up and down
Yellow to Red Blows up after a few seconds
Blue Plaform constantly moves from side to side
Brown Cracks as soon as jumped on
Dark Blue Can be moved around by player. Turns into a green platform when jumped on.
White Disappears after being jumped on.
Power Up Function
Jetpack Shoots the player up at high speeds for a few seconds
Propeller hat Same a jetpack however Doodler travels much slower
Spring Increases the jumping distance when jumped on top of
Trampoline Same as the spring however it propells Doodler further
Spring shoes Same as springs but they become attached to the Doodler for 3 jumps
The Orb/ Force shield Makes the Doodler briefly invulnerable to monsters
The Rocket (only in space theme) Propels the Doodler high up at very high speeds. This is more powerful than the jetpack but is less common.

Overall the game is easily one of the best available for the iPhone and iPod. It is often talked about as the only contender to Angry Birds for the best app produced for the iPod since it’s creation. Of course, if you have 99c/59p to spare, you would be foolish to look anywhere else except for Doodle Jump to spend it on.
