iPad is launched in UK
Today, 28th May 2010, the iPad was officially launched in Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Japan, Australia and Canada. Fears grew that Apple had severely under estimated the demand in several of the countries, as sales soared throughout the day.
At the Apple flagship store in Regent Street, London, hundreds gathered at 8am for the official launch of the iPad, with famous faces such as Stephen Fry fronting the queue. Such is the expectation of the company that has already brought us era-changing technology such as the iPod and iPhone.
Those queueing in the UK would of been expected to pay almost 25% more then the customers overseas, but that didn’t stop a limitation of one iPad per household being permitted. The sales around the world took the total volume sold to over 1 million units, taking just28 days to do so and easily beating the 78 days it took the iPhone to reach the same feat.
As with every new product the Apple company produces, expectation and excitement increases. All customers know any advance on the iPhone is surely worth splashing the cash, as will be the situation with the next life-changing product.
