Angry Birds is without doubt the best game to have been produced for the iTunes App Store. Although the idea for the game doesn’t sound as appealing as other top titles in the store, the game play blows them all out of the water.

The game doesn’t contain a storyline as such, the aim of the game is to get through each of the 131 levels having killed all the pigs you encounter. You do this by slinging birds at them, using a over-sized slingshot. There are a variety of different birds you can use, all with their own special ability The pigs are normally protected by a range of different materials, including rock, wood, ice and even rubber ducks and beach balls! Each of the birds are specially designed to have a unique ability to destroy each material type, for example the bomb bird works particularly well on rock, but struggles to break through wood.

The game is probably still not hugely appealing to you at this stage, and probably won’t until you have actually tried the game. The openness of the game is what most appeals, as there is no long, drawn out storyline to become engrossed in, you can simply pick up your iPhone and continue where you left off, killing big green pigs.

The game does however have a addictive scoring system, in which you are scored on the amount of damage you cause to the surroundings, the amount of pigs you kill and the number of birds you have left at the end of each level. You also receive an amount of stars for each level you complete, which is related to your score. This increases the longevity of the game as even when you have completed all the 131 levels, going back through each one trying to get the maximum amount of stars on each will take weeks.

Overall the game is no doubt the best on the app store, which is reflected by the App chart. The game hasn’t been knocked off the top spot in months and there can be no assumptions as to when that will happen. Even if you are not a gamer, Angry Birds is an app you must have on your iPhone or iPod.
